Men on average live shorter than women. Males’ life expectancy is 78 years old compared to 83 for females, this is generally because male patients ignore warning symptoms. Prostate cancer is killing more than breast cancer. It is estimated that nearly half of all men suffer from symptoms of prostatitis at some stage in their lives. Chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS) accounts for most of the prostatitis-like symptoms in >90% of men. Commonly manifests as pain in areas including the perineum, rectum, prostate, penis, testicles, and abdomen and causes are unknown.
Prostate Enlargement is believed to occur from the age of 30 years, and rises with increased age, 8%, 50%, and 80% in the 4th, 6th, and 9th decades of life, respectively. A third of men aged over 50 years will develop urinary symptoms (LUTS) and a quarter will need surgical intervention. With a changing demographic profile and an increasingly ageing population in almost all societies, this disorder will inevitably become even more prevalent and a major challenge for all healthcare systems in the future. The exact pathogenesis of enlarged prostate (BPH) is unclear.
Science found that one of the main causes of prostate changes and symptoms is inflammation due to vascular congestion. Was also found that patients who experience prostate symptoms also had less muscle mobility compared to patients without prostate symptoms, and by improving pelvic muscle tone you will have better blood circulation in the pelvis.
Prostatectomy can affect your ability to control your bladder habits and have an impact on your ability to have an erection.
Osteopathy, with the use of gentle soft tissue techniques, can improve muscle tone and promote blood circulation and drenage restoring function of your pelvis. Moreover, manual techniques applied on the pelvic floor are shown to improve the recovery following prostatectomy.
